Elkhound Labrador Breed Description

The Elkhound Labrador is blessed with a mild temperament, which makes them optimal as a family dog. These dogs have a playful, happy personality and demonstrate good will and loyalty. Elkhound Labrador are extremely loyal dogs to their family, but they tend to be wary of everyone else (until they are familiar with the person). Today the Elkhound Labs are prized as companions, thanks to their sweet, smart, and attentive nature.

Though the breed has high energy to burn outside the Elkhound Labrador is well-mannered inside, and is good with children and cats but may chase smaller pets. Similar to most other sporting breeds, Elkhound Labrador are high-energy dogs that will only thrive in households where they get ample attention and exercise. They also have the tendency to bark at strangers, but regularly this is not an aggressive bark. They are not aggressive and are commonly not overly territorial either. The breed can be stubborn at times, so the owner will need to use a steady training schedule to make sure the breed is well mannered and socialized.
