You can expect the physical appearance of the pomchi to resemble both parents. Since both the chihuahua and the pomeranian are considered toy dog breeds, the pomchi will also be a toy dog breed. On average the pomchi ranges between 6-9 inches in height (from ground to shoulder) and weighs 6-14 pounds. Their small size makes the pomchi an excellent companion dog as they are easy to transport.

Pomchis are intelligent dogs which are willing to please their owner. As a companion dog breed, the pomchi will develop a strong bond with their family and will frequently follow their favorite owner around their home. The breed does well with children and other pets, but are fairly fragile due to their small size and will need to be supervised when around larger animals or excited children.

The pomchi is a small to medium maintenance dog breed. Their coat will need to be brushed daily or several times per week to keep it free of loose hairs and to prevent matting. The breed has somewhat sensitive skin so hypoallergenic shampoos should be used when bathing to prevent irritation. The breed is energetic and will need daily exercise, however their small size makes it easy for them to reach meet their exercise needs fairly quickly.

The Pomchi, as the offspring of two toy-sized breeds, is itself pretty tiny. These hybrids are pretty squarish in stature, with alert, lively expressions.

But specifically what does a Pomchi look like? The head is fairly round, with a short muzzle, triangular, erect ears, and large, almond-shaped eyes that are usually brown. The chest is of medium width and depth, the legs are thin and straight, the body is moderately long, and the tail is fluffy and usually curved over the back.

The Pomchi coat length and texture will depend on whether the Chihuahua parent is short- or long-haired--but these hybrids usually have medium to long, fluffy, double-layered coats.

The most variable aspect of the Pomchi is its coat. Depending upon the type of Chihuahua used as one of the parent breeds, these dogs may either have shorter single layered coats or longer double layered ones. A long haired Chihuahua mixed with Pomeranian will result in the longer haired version that may appear more Pomeranian-like. Although many of these dogs will have medium to long hair, short haired Pomchis may occur if the puppy inherits specific genes from a short haired Chihuahua parent.

The Pomchi personality makes it an ideal lapdog. They thoroughly enjoy spending time with the family and are loyal, affectionate and playful. Members of this breed get along well with children that are old enough to be taught how to respectfully handle a pet; there is a chance they will bite or snap if handled roughly. With other pets and benign strangers these guys are said to be friendly and sociable. Members of this breed are not shy from being vocal and may bark frequently. Pomchis are courageous and often don't consider their own size, which if not trained properly, could lead to small dog syndrome.

These dogs are said to be fairly intelligent and can be trained even by a first time owner. Although they are said to be stubborn and difficult when it comes to housebreaking, they are not as much so as their Chihuahua parent. Obedience training is also a great way to exercise them and spend time with them. Members of this breed are not dogs that should live outdoors or be left alone, even inside the home, for long periods of time.
