The Poshie is a hybrid dog produced by breeding a Sheltie and Pomeranian. This results in a loving, energetic lapdog that is not quite as needy as similar crosses. They are playful and outgoing with children and friendly towards other pets. Poshies make decent watchdogs and will bark to alert their owner to the approach of a stranger and they may retain this suspicion until they become well acquainted with the person. Poshies Breed Description

The Pomeranian Sheltie mix produces a small sized companion and lapdog that varies from others, even within the same litter, in terms of traits and appearance. It is recommended you visit the breed pages for both the Sheltie and Pomeranian to familiarize yourself with all of the possible traits your Poshie puppy may inherit.

Members of this breed retain the intelligence and trainability of the Sheltie. If not given enough mental and physical stimulation, this breed is prone to frequent barking and other destructive behaviors. They are treat motivated.

These dogs are not as yappy as the Pomeranian but are more friendly and outgoing than the Sheltie. They do not have the herding instincts of the Sheltie but retain their high intelligence and are quick learners. In general, Poshies are friendly and outgoing to kids, pets and even visitors, however, they will certainly sound the alarm when a stranger is at the door.

Poshies are energetic dogs that have moderate exercise needs, but due to their small size, this is not typically taxing on their owners. Thirty minutes or so of daily outdoor activity should be enough to satisfy their needs. This breed enjoys brisk, leashed walks as well as playtime and training with their owners.

Poshies Health

Poshies are small sized dogs, even when fully grown. It is important to avoid rough play and show children how to carefully handle pets. Also, these dogs have very thick double coats so leaving them outdoors in very warm temperatures is not good for them. Typically, Poshies have a lifespan of 12-16 years.

Hybrid dogs are typically healthier than their purebred parents, especially the first generation crosses. This breed is a fairly new one, therefore, not much information is available regarding common problems. It is recommended you familiarize yourself with all potential health conditions for both parent breeds (the Pomeranian and Sheltie) before adopting a Poshie.
