Where to Get A Shih-poo

As spunky, playful little dogs, Shih-Poos are excellent pets for singles, seniors, and small families, and the breed will be comfortable in a house or apartment. And as designer hybrid dogs, it isn't too difficult to find Shih-Poo puppies for sale, but they are in fairly high demand, so most reputable breeders have waiting lists. Potential owners should be wary of breeders who have plenty of Shih-Poo pups available (often at low cost), as this may signify the breeder's use of unhealthy and illegal breeding practices.

But a healthy Shih-Poo is a joy to have around. Though they shed a good bit, this breed is hypoallergenic, and thus will be okay for allergy sufferers. If you're fortunate enough to find one, a Shih-Poo will be great for most any household.

Shih-poo Price

Though the cost can vary, the average Shih-Poo price is $600-700. (Private owners may charge a bit less, and reputable breeders more.) In addition, most breeders charge an extra fee to be placed on a waiting list.

A number of other factors can affect the cost for this breed, including:

  • High demand
  • Uncommon coloring
  • Individual size
  • Age
  • Health
  • Whether one or both parent dogs are registered
  • Whether one or both parent dogs have won awards, or are part of a winning bloodline

Finding A Free Shih-poo

It's not often easy, but Shih-Poos can be found for no cost. Free Shih-Poo puppies are sometimes listed in the classified ads of newspapers or on Craigslist. Dog shelters are another source. Just be aware that many rescue dogs may have been abused or exposed to other trauma that can affect their behavior.
