Yorkie-tons (also called Yorkie de Tulears) are part purebred Yorkshire Terrier and part purebred Coton de Tulear. They are tiny companions that are loving, affectionate, spirited and bright. The best match for this breed is... nearly anyone as long as the potential owner can spend time with them daily. They are small enough for apartment living and don't require much exercise, however, training won't be as easy as some breeds and the coat will need daily maintenance if you choose to keep it long. These cuties are a commitment, as they will probably live 14-16 years or more; visit both parent breed pages to learn about health issues that may be passed to your Yorkie-ton.

Yorkie-ton Breed Description

Yorkie-Coton de Tulear mixes are small to very small dogs that usually weigh less than 13 pounds; breeders mating Mini or Teacup Yorkies will produce the smallest puppies. They have long coats that can be silky or fluffy and usually include shades of black, tan, blue, gold and white; they are often bi colored black and tan like the Yorkie.

This may be the most useful piece of Yorkie ton info you ever read...do not treat them like a baby! They already think they are large, powerful dogs and will develop behaviors such as yapping, jumping, biting, pulling, etc. if you make them the #1 person in the household. That no.1 spot belongs to you, so train them with firmness and consistency; although they are bright it may take extra patience along with plenty of treats and praise to get them to pay attention.

These dogs are happy, charming, sweet and affectionate towards their owner(s) and will require plenty attention daily. They are not outdoor dogs and don't enjoy being left alone all day. Yorkietons are best suited for older kids that have no chance of being rough with them. Other pets should mesh perfectly fine with this breed.

Yorkie de Tulears will be spirited indoors and don't require too much exercise, though a daily walk is still recommended. They take up little space and certainly don't require a fenced yard.

Yorkie-ton Temperament

Some Yorkie tons will be more active, spirited and affectionate like the Yorkie while others will have more Coton de Tulear sparkling charm and happiness; there will also be those that seem to be an equal mixture of both. The Yorkie ton temperament is described as energetic, bright, friendly, loving and affectionate.

Your Yorkie ton will want plenty of attention...from almost everyone and do not enjoy being alone for long amounts of time. It's imperative you don't treat these little babies as your actual baby or else they may develop small dog syndrome which includes nuisance behaviors such as yapping, pulling, jumping, biting and many other annoying things. Although they are fairly bright, they may take extra time and patience to train.

A well socialized member of this breed will enjoy the attention of older kids that have been taught how to safely and respectfully handle a pet (they're rather delicate). They can also live peacefully with other pets, especially if brought up with them. Finally, these little guys will be active indoors but a daily walk is still recommended.

Yorkie-ton Health

The Yorkshire Terrier and Coton de Tulear mix usually results in puppies healthier than either purebred due to a widened gene pool. This is especially important for this hybrid since Yorkies have a whole list of health problems that can possibly be passed to offspring; the breed is so popular they are often irresponsibly inbred without consideration of health to create quick profits. It is paramount to find a reputable, responsible breeder that offers health guarantees when you are looking to get a Yorkie mix.

This should be a long lived little breed that will likely live 14-16 years, perhaps more. Visit our breed pages for the Yorkshire Terrier and Coton de Tulear for a list of health issues that can be passed down to your hybrid puppy. The Yorkie ton breed is not yet popular enough to have information regarding issues specific to them.
